Which Browser? is a new tool that I have developed for Linux, Mac and Windows. The basic idea is that it’s a program that replaces the default browser of your operating system. It collects these links, and then allows you to choose the browser and browser profile (if applicable) that is appropriate.
Such as if:
you were to have a browser that you always open Facebook links it would facilitate that
there are certain sites that you need to open in particular profiles, such as news articles, or your employers / universities / one of your clients subdomains
However the application goes a couple steps further than that, such as:
Allowing you snooze links to arbitrary dates / times
Allowing you preview the content (currently via social media cards)
Discard link open intents
Run rules against them that does all of the above and more
I have been playing around with it for a couple weeks and I’ve found that it helps a lot, and reduces the number of tabs I have open, and calendar events that I create for myself to remind me to look at things.
Status
Currently the application is working on all 3 platforms. My build pipeline is working for Linux and Windows, but not Mac. I am also having issues with sand-boxing in both Windows (MSIX) and Mac, so the application will have to be run as a classic app. I would really like to sandbox it but the sand-boxing configuration on both platforms are a bit limited right now.
I am ready to take on beta testers. I am mostly using it on Linux so I expect there to be a lot of issues on Mac and Windows that need to be sorted out. Please let me know, more noise is better.
So far I only support the latest version of each platform, this is because that’s what I run, if the needs arrive I will get other versions of the OS going for testing and development on my side.
Please feel free to share the beta program details, it remains open for the moment, if I have a reason to close it I might.
Future expansion
I have a lot of ideas as to where to take this in the future, and a lot of features I want to build out. However there is no point on building these things without users, also I am limited in the amount of work I will be putting into this application without some sort of plan for paying for bills. I will however continue to be using it myself.
For the mean time watch here for updates.
Could I do an Android version? — I think it is possible
Could I do an iOS version? — Less confident.
Project
Unlike my other projects I have not made this one open source. There is no real reason behind this. I haven’t done this in quite some time, and it seems I have forgotten how to distribute files and other things without the benefits of a FOSS pipeline. You get a lot of things for free such as Github Actions, and Releases.
To support the project for now you can:
Assist with testing
Share feedback with me
Share with people who are interested / benefit
Buy a subscription on sub stack
Use Github sponsorship; but make it clear for what reason: https://github.com/sponsors/arran4
At this stage all engagement is encouraging.

Screencaps
A lot of the look and feel of the application was for development speed. I do intend to modify it, and I am hoping to get some opinions on it, around looks, and functionality.
